DO YOU KNOW THAT…
Thanks to animals people can study the interdependence of:
🌱food;
🔋energy;
💧water;
♻️ ecosystems.
▶️HOW DOES IT WORK
We are assisted by sensors for tracking the movement of animals in pastures that we use as part of the DKU Natural Resources Institute’s research project:
“Interdependent dynamics of food, energy and water (FEW): related to land-use change and land cover with transitional socio-ecological systems on the example of Almaty region”.
🔹 In October 2020 we conducted a survey of local shepherds.
Next, we selected animals to install collars with sensors.
⬇️
🔹 In January 2021 we plan to remove the first batch of sensors for their analysis. At the same time, we will place a second batch of sensors.
💡 The purpose of the study
– evaluate and analyze the effectiveness of using the feed capacity of the vegetative cover and preserving them in the future.
✅ This study is very important for assessing the impact of land-use change, evapotranspiration and albedo using satellite imagery, as well as identifying the indirect effects of infrastructure, farmer demographics and climate in the area.
